AVS CASE STUDY
USMC Commandants’ Conference Room - Pentagon
Project Summary - Design, Installation, Testing and Maintenance

Audio Video Systems (AVS) was contracted by General Dynamics as part of our involvement in the Pentagon Renovation Program (PENREN) to install the conference room audio/video system for the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC).
The system included dual display, consisting of two video walls made up of four 50-inch diagonal flat panels arranged in a two-by-two configuration. An additional plasma display was installed on the side wall of the room. Full matrix capability was provided, allowing any source to be viewed on any display at any time. Display sources include various dedicated and auxiliary computer inputs throughout the room, VCR with record capability, DVDs, cable television, and secure/non-secure video teleconferencing. The audio system provides distribution of playback and reinforcement audio throughout the room via ceilingand wall-mounted speakers. Microphones in the lectern and conference
table enable capturing of audio for VTC and voice reinforcement.

The system is controlled via two touch panel interfaces, one at the operator's console and one that can be connected at the conference table or the lectern. The control system also provides operator control of the room message signs and room lighting systems. AVS provided custom furniture for the CMC conference room, including a conference table, lectern and an operator's console. Electronics integrated into the furniture include microphones in the conference table and lectern, auxiliary computer inputs in the lectern and operator's console, and confidence monitors mounted on an electronic lift at the head of the conference table. To provide an optimal acoustical environment, sound paneling was installed on the walls in the room. Advanced video teleconferencing bridge and gatekeeper capabilities were integrated into the system, along with AVS’ AVSPM Presentation Manager TM Software for touchpanel control of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations from any of the system’s briefing computers.
