Audiovisual Engineering Internship Program

Brief Description of Position

The AVS Engineering Internship Program is a three to six month, paid part-time program designed to bring talent into AVS and to train selected candidates who upon successful completion, will have the opportunity to become Junior Systems Engineers. A Junior Systems Engineer will work with and take direction from the Engineering Manager, and follow an audiovisual engineering career path with capacity to work unsupervised to achieve professional results.

AVS is looking for candidates who are interested in learning about the audiovisual (AV) industry and who have or are near completion of their four-year technical degree. The candidate should have at least some experience with AutoCAD and general office computer programs.

An Engineering Intern will learn the basics of the audiovisual industry and become familiar with the engineering aspects of AV. An intern will learn about the basics of AV connections/terminations; room planning and design; application of mechanical and CAD drawings; signal flow types; and audio/video signals.

The intern program is designed for recent college graduates or engineering students. The internship is a 20-30 hour per week program and is flexible based on a students’ schedule. After completing the internship, a candidate can advance their careers as AV systems engineers or independent consultants, and be certified by InfoComm International, the largest trade organization in the AV industry, and the industry leader in developing standards and standards practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for periods of time
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Must be able to work on tall ladders and scaffolds
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and tints

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must be insurable to drive company vehicles
  • Must have valid drivers license
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clientele including good written and oral communication skills and good interpersonal skills is required. Ability to perform complex and time-critical tasks with optimum effectiveness and efficiency, often in high-pressure situations. Ability to work flexible hours when needed.
