Barthelson Plaza will be the site of Audio Video Systems’ new headquarters.

The 72,000 square foot building will include offices, as well as warehouse, integration and conference facility space.

Barthelson Plaza is located on a 7.5 acre (or 300,000 square feet) parcel of land at 14564 Lee Road, in Chantilly, Virginia.

LEED Certified Green Building

Barthelson Plaza is striving to achieve a LEED certification. Here are some highlights of things that will help achieve this goal:

• Uses the highest quality all-natural materials.
• The walls will be made up of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) that will help stabilize and maintain internal temperature both in winter and summer.
• The building will use an agricultural well that will pump more than 100,000 gallons of water per day, minimizing the use of local Fairfax County water.  This water will be recycled to help cool the building and irrigate all 7.5 acres.
• The building will use top-quality glass to help maintain temperature.
• The exterior of the building will be painted with a white paint containing titanium dioxide, which will help neutralize and sterilize volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as gasoline fumes, CO2 and other dangerous air pollutants on the property and the surrounding area.  For example, the building is located directly below the flight path of many incoming planes into nearby Dulles International Airport, which will help bring down the level of volatile pollutants, such as airplane jet fuel exhaust.
• Plans are being made to convert the roof of the new building into a photovoltaic roof to harness solar energy that will be used for electricity within the building (to be installed after building completion).

Other Organic Features

• The site will be organically managed by Virginia Green Grocer, an organic farming business owned and operated by the Barthelson family, to achieve a sustainable, fertile and green zone.
• A full food and catering service will be available for AVS staff and the conference facilities.  It will contain a menu using organic products, including vegetables, fruit and dairy, supplied by Virginia Green Grocer.
